God is Deeply in Love with Us!
If he doubts, he wishes to be certain; if he doubts, he thinks; if he doubts, he knows that he does not know. - ST. AUGUSTINE
After I read the first part of today’s quote, I thought “Oh dear, I’m in trouble. I definitely doubt, and St. Augustine is right—I want to be certain. I like to understand things.” It’s the way God made me!
So, then I read the second part of the quote, and I said to myself, “Gosh, now I’m really in trouble!” I am a thinker; I like to figure things out and then solve the problem.
Relief washed over me when I got to the end and read the third statement. I thought, “My doubts mean I don’t know everything and hooray for that! I surely don’t know everything, but I don’t have to know everything!”
There is so much we don’t know, and that is okay. God understands. What we need to remember is that our good God knows us, He understands us, and He loves us anyway. God loves us when we understand things and life is going well. And God loves us when we are in the middle of struggles, messes, and misunderstandings and life is not going so well. God loves us, plain and simple.
It doesn’t matter what we know, what we don’t know, if we doubt or if we trust. God loves us. Let us trust this truth always.
Jesus, I trust in you.
