God is Deeply in Love with Us!
Eucharist is about the absolute love of God for us, and we are thrilled to journey with your child in their discovery of that love. Additional information will be made available to all HSP families in the Faith Formation program and Holy Spirit School at a family meeting in early February. See calendar for more information and additional important dates.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: WHAT IS IT?
First Holy Communion is the second of the three Sacraments of Initiation. The Eucharist Sacrament is commonly called First Holy Communion and celebrates the real presence of Christ in the bread, wine, and gathered community. It is the most important and more repeated Sacrament of the Catholic life. Each Sunday we gather in Mass as the Body of Christ to be nourished by the life-giving gift of Jesus' own body and blood. When we leave Mass, we take this loving gift with us into the world, spreading the love of God and Good news of Jesus to all those around us.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: THE BIG DAY!
First Communion typically occurs during elementary school, in a child's second grade year. If your child attends Holy Spirit School or another Catholic school, they will be prepared for their First Holy Communion as part of their school curriculum. If your child attends a public or non-Catholic private school, you will need to enroll your child in the Faith Formation program.
First Communion is celebrated in late April/early May each year with typically four dates to choose from. Families are sent a link to submit their preferred date(s) approximately two months in advance of the First Communion Mass dates. Communication will be sent to all families confirming the final date/time by the end of February.
