Being a Peer Leader means setting a good example for first time campers, younger campers, and really anyone at camp. You also get more of an opportunity for leadership as a Peer Leader.
You have the power to set the tone of the trip. Show the younger kids and the first-timers that we are in it together and we are HSP family
Do I HAVE to be a Peer Leader?
You do not have to apply to be a Peer Leader. We do want to encourage you to try and grow in your leadership skills and this would be a good way to do that! Talk to Sarah/Alex/Aaron if you are on the edge.
What do Peer Leaders do?
Your main responsibilities are as follows:
Help your adult leader(s) take head counts on the buses
Check in with all the campers in your group each day—you are another set of eyes to make sure all the campers are happy and healthy
If something is wrong with a group member, you will report it to an adult leader or to Sarah/Alex/Aaron
Even if you just suspect something is going on but don’t have proof, report it anyways
If you see something that shouldn’t be happening, you will report it to an adult leader or to Sarah/Alex/Aaron
Your report will be kept confidential
Show leadership in programs and free time—participate fully in the fun activities and the serious parts
Take care of each other
Bullying and gossiping, especially within our parish group, is unacceptable. Be inclusive!
Be a good role model and friend!
Help plan our CHWC Lip Sync battle
Peer Leader Requirements:
You must have gone on at least one CHWC trip with Holy Spirit before and be in 9th grade or above.
BONUSES:
This looks great on scholarships and gets you on the bus first. We do a peer leader training before we leave for camp and you are expected to “represent” your Peer Leader role at camp.
