God is Deeply in Love with Us!
It is the highest duty of religion to imitate Him Whom thou adorest.
- ST. AUGUSTINE
Adore means love and respect deeply; worship; venerate. Who do you adore? What do you adore? In other words, where does your heart lie?
What St. Augustine doesn’t say in this quote, but what I think comes before imitating and adoring, is knowledge. In other words, we must know who we want to imitate. We cannot imitate Him who we do not know.
So, let us ask Jesus to reveal Himself even more deeply to us today, that we may come to know Him better. In knowing Jesus more deeply, we will be given the grace to imitate His love and service to each other and to our world. Then without hesitation, we can fulfill this ‘highest duty’ St. Augustine speaks about by imitating and adoring our Savior and Lord. Thanks be to God!
Jesus, I trust in you.
